IWA8 is a 100% volunteer-driven, action-oriented, grassroots group of people who work together to promote and protect democracy, our rights, and justice for all. If you cherish democracy and want to take action to defend it, you’ve come to the right place.

Our group was founded in January 2017 in Washington state’s 8th Congressional District as part of the national Indivisible Movement which rose up to resist the extremist, anti-democratic first Trump administration.
As of today, we number 1,800 members who live in and around Issaquah, Sammamish, Renton, Snoqualmie, and North Bend.

We are connected to Indivisible groups across Washington state and across the country. We are not affiliated with any political party or political action committee.

IWA8 members were integral in helping elect a local pediatrician, Dr. Kim Schrier, to represent us in Congress. Since then, we’ve helped re-elect Rep. Schrier and we’ve expanded our focus to support progressive leadership “up and down the ballot” in city, county and state races. As constituents, we also learn about and support progressive federal and state legislation. We don’t spend our time doom scrolling or complaining about how bad things are – we harness our energy and put it to work to make things better.

We do all this together, in a way that forges community and builds friendships. Our members stay with us because of the people they meet, the support we give one another, the wins we’ve achieved together, and because we make good use of their time and have fun together. In joining us, we hope you plan to be an active member!

Here’s a little more about us and ways you can jumpstart your activism!

What We Do

  • Come together for in-person Community Meetings one Saturday per month. Find the next one on our calendar.
  • Come together for rallies and other events, including picnics and parties
  • Work to elect progressive candidates for federal, state and local office by talking to voters at the doors, on the phone, via text and through our postcard program, and we support and mentor those of us who have never done these things!
  • Advocate for progressive legislation in Olympia and “the other Washington”
  • Communicate regularly via Facebook, our website, and email.
