Three Big Fights

Every time one of us – a family member, a community organizer, a representative, a senator – takes a step forward in this fight, a thousand pairs of eyes watch and learn. Courage is contagious. — Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg
There’s a lot going on right now and we know it has been difficult to make sense of what you’re seeing. Indivisible National’s agenda is focused on three big fights we can’t afford to lose.
The full explainer (text and short video) is linked above, but here is the brief summary:
- Fight the Trump-Musk Coup: This is all about stopping Elon Musk and Trump from conspiring to take over the government by dismantling federal agencies and stopping funding to critical programs that are relied on by millions.
- The Republican Government Shutdown: If Congress doesn’t get a funding bill passed, the government shuts down. The priority here is stopping Republicans from cutting programs and further empowering Musk and Trump.
- MAGA Reconciliation Budget Scheme: Republicans will also try to push their agenda through using a procedural loophole known as reconciliation. This method would allow Republicans to move on some of their most harmful priorities, like ramping up deportation and tax cuts for billionaires.
Great, what do I do?
You guessed it – call… call… call… It seems boring, but repeated calls are effective! It will take more than one call, and more than one ask, to change a congressperson’s mind. Add your voice and keep calling and calling! The more people who call, the more our leaders know they need to rethink their strategies and not remain silent!
Again, here are the asks for Representative Schrier:
- Commit to voting NO on any budget that lets Musk and Trump override Congress to slash key programs
- Speaker Johnson has a bunch of radical right-wingers in his caucus who are playing hardball to pass radical cuts to social safety nets such as Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP to fund more tax breaks for the wealthiest. If he wants a less radical budget, he needs Democratic votes. We need our Democrats to say loudly and clearly, “No vote from me until the Musk/DOGE lawlessness stops.”
- Commit to voting NO on any budget that contains “poison pills” attacking abortion rights, LGBTQ+ protections, or immigrant communities.
- We hate to say it, but Kim was a ‘yes’ on the Defense Authorization Act with an anti-trans poison pill as well as a ‘yes’ on the extremist anti-immigrant bills the Laken Riley Act and the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Protection Act. A vote to keep the government open while gutting healthcare or abandoning vulnerable constituents is not what we want!
The House controls the budget, but given the filibuster rules, the minority in the Senate may be able to do more than the minority in the House to slow down the Project 2025 agenda. See some asks for our Senators here.
I’ve also heard bad things about the SAVE Act, why isn’t that on the top three list?
Indivisible National is prioritizing a subset of Congress to shore up the votes against the SAVE Act: In the House, that includes Shomari Figures, Josh Harder, Jared Moskowitz, April McClain Delaney, Kristen McDonald Rivet, Jared Golden, Donald Davis, Tom Suozzi, John Mannion, Susie Lee, Marcy Kaptur, Vicente Gonzalez, Henry Cuellar and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez.
While Rep Schrier is not on this list, a strong statement from her might help influence Marie Glusenkamp Perez, who is on the list. Find the SAVE Act talking points here.
I want to be out on the streets!
No entitled reality-TV has-been backed by an addle-brained billionaire who cheats at video games is going to roll over us now. — Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg
In addition to calling on our Senators and Representative Schrier to put the people over Elon Musk, demonstrators are taking the protests straight to Musk’s businesses. Indivisible Valley is co-sponsoring sign waving on Wednesdays at the Starlink complex in Redmond. Sign up here.
If you attend: Please park on the side streets and not in business parking lots. Signs should be directed specifically at Musk. Do not impede traffic. Do not enter the complex or the complex parking lots.
