State LD District Boundaries are changing!
As the result of a voting rights lawsuit, district boundaries are changing for our state-level legislative districts – Although the main changes affect LD 14 and LD 15, the changes affect a wide area of the state. All of the colored districts in the image below have a boundary change.
You can also open the new maps in Dave’s Redistricting tool to zoom in and find exact district boundaries near you. (When it asks you to create an account, you can just select “dismiss” if you just plan to view maps and not create or edit them.)
Our redistricting process is broken — and the League of Women Voters wants you to understand the problems and join them in the effort to fix this before our next census and redistricting. Please mark your calendars for the following events:
Redistricting Reform with Alison McCaffree
The LWVWA supports a fully funded independent citizen redistricting process with enforceable standards that promote timely, fair, and effective representation. In June, LWVWA passed a resolution at our state convention supporting the Redistricting Reform Campaign to restructure our state’s outdated redistricting commission. You can now get involved to help make a new kind of commission a reality.
Register for this online event on Sat, 4/6/24 10:30 – 12noon

New Legislative Map Briefings
Join the Redistricting Reform Task Force for a briefing on the Washington State’s new legislative maps. How did we get here? Where do we go next?
Finalized on Friday 3/25/24 with a Court Order from Judge Lasnik, these new maps are the remedy from the Soto Palmer v Hobbs decision. Despite a last-minute attempt by the Intervenor-Defendant’s to put forth a simpler change, the Plaintiff’s 3A map was adjusted for technical fixes and made law in Map 3B. 13 districts in 15 counties are affected. Over to half a million people will change districts and 5 legislators are no longer in the district they represent. The decision is being appealed to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals for a stay. The election process will move forward with these maps towards the 2024 election unless there is a ruling.
Join the first briefing option on Weds 4/10 6:30pm-8:00pm
