No Anti-Trans Add-ons to the Defense Bill
First the bad news…
The National Defense Authorization Act, which enacts the first federal anti-LGBTQ+ law in over a decade and targets the trans kids of military service members with bans on coverage of their gender affirming care, just passed with 81 Democratic votes – including from our own Kim Schrier. This bill and the votes of several Democrats are seen as a severe betrayal of transgender constituents. If passed by the Senate as well, this policy will severely disrupt the lives of transgender service members (and family members covered by a servicemember’s insurance) by jeopardizing their access to vital healthcare coverage.
Take Action! Tell Kim Schrier that we expect her to stand against transphobia and protect vulnerable groups against the incoming administration.

But there is reason for hope…
In a letter to Senate Budget Committe Chair Patty Murry and vice-chair Susan Collins, over 40 Senators have expressed their dismay and asked the Budged Committe to keep dangerous, hyper-partisan policy provisions that would curtail the freedoms of women and LGBTQ+ individuals out of must-pass government funding legislation. Full text of the letter can be found by clicking here.
Call Senator Cantwell and thank her for signing on to this important letter!
