What does protecting our democracy look like come January 2025? Leah Greenberg and her team have been on this and outlined the most promising tactics and approaches in a new version of the Indivisible Guide at this link. There will be lots of specific take action items in the coming year, and this is your key to understanding the high level principles behind them.
If you missed the launch call last week, the replay is available on YouTube here. Hear from Elizabeth Warren, Leah Greenberg, and Ezra Levin on what the fight against Trump 2.0 will look like.
And, there is an opportunity to submit questions for the next Coffee with Leah and Ezra on Thursday, November 21 at noon.
Participate in the WIN Issue Priority Survey
We have a trifecta in Olympia, too – and this one is on Team Blue! How do we use that opportunity?
Washington Indivisible Network (WIN) organizes our activism in Olympia, and they want to hear from YOU as they plan strategy for when the legislature reconvenes in Olympia in January. Make your voice heard by filling out this survey. If you have time to volunteer, the survey form also has a spot where you can sign up to be a bill tracker on an issue that you are passionate about.
Tell Kim Schrier: Change her vote to NO on HR9495
Despite the fact that it was already defeated in a floor vote, Republicans in the House have a second chance to pass a bill that would give the incoming Trump administration unchecked power to shut down any non-profit organization that stands in the way of his MAGA agenda.
Under this legislation, Trump’s Treasury Department could indiscriminately label any non-profit organization – think tanks, human rights groups, civil liberties orgs, universities, student groups, even Indivisible Civics – a “terrorist supporting organization” and strip it of its tax-exempt status. This bill requires no oversight. No due-process. No justification. Trump could use it to shut down any and all dissent against him.
This bill is a litmus test for Democrats as we prepare for the incoming Trump administration: are Democrats going to make it easier for Trump to pursue his authoritarian agenda or are they going to fight back?
And we’ll need more Democrats on our side for this second vote – unlike the first, failed vote, which required a 2/3s majority to pass under a suspension of the rules, this vote will require only a simple majority to pass. And 52 Democrats inexplicably voted for this bill last time – including our own Dr. Kim Schrier – that’s not acceptable. (See the vote list here)
This time, we need all Democrats in the House to vote NO on H.R. 9495 and send a clear message to Trump that they will not just give in to his power grabs. If this bill passes with bipartisan support, there’s a real risk it gets folded into the annual Defense bill, which would put it on a glide path through the Senate. We can’t let that happen.

Tell Our Senators: Confirm Biden’s Judges ASAP
Congress is reconvening for the final session of the year and Senate Democrats only have a few more weeks in the majority. With another Trump presidency and a Republican-controlled Senate looming, Democrats must make the most of this time and do everything in their power to safeguard our democracy and our rights.
That’s why they must prioritize confirming pro-democracy judges in the final session. President Biden has nominated a slate of diverse, highly qualified candidates to federal judgeships. The Senate has confirmed over 200 of these judges, but there are 29 more nominations still pending – and that number could grow before Biden leaves office. Confirmations can be slow because there are a number of procedural hoops to jump through in the Senate – but with determination and long hours, Democrats can get this done.
Federal judges serve for lifetime appointments, so it’s crucial that these positions are filled by candidates who are dedicated to upholding the Constitution and our democracy. And we know that if these seats are still vacant when he takes office, Trump will nominate judges that will further the MAGA agenda from the bench.
