Keep Blue seats Blue – LD 5 Senate Candidate Bill Ramos
Indivisible WA8’s top priority in this 2024 Election is to keep Blue seats Blue! This means doing everything we can to elect Rep. Bill Ramos in the hotly contested Senate seat in the 5th LD.
Republicans view the recent redistricting as their opportunity to take back this seat. But we’re not going to let that happen!
Every contact we have with friends and neighbors, and at canvasses or phone banks, is an opportunity to weave his accomplishments as a State Representative into our friendly conversations.
Here are a few things our super-powered Indivisible 8th Research Team has gathered talking points about Bill’s record working for us.
- Transportation Solutions – An expert on transportation issues, Bill led passage of Move Ahead WA, a transformative transportation funding package that made historic investments in overdue highway safety and maintenance – including fully funding improvements to Highway 18 and other roads, and clean-transit expansion.
- Safe & Affordable Housing – Bill worked with colleagues to secure over $2 billion to begin to tackle our affordable housing problem by investing in utility and rental assistance, landlord cost mitigation, homeless service and shelter providers.
- Reproductive Freedoms – Bill is the only candidate in this race endorsed by Planned Parenthood. The photo above is from our recent Dobbs Anniversary Rally, where Bill was proud to speak on behalf of our freedom to make our own abortion and family planning decisions.
- Elected Experience – Bill served on the Issaquah City Council and has been elected three consecutive times by the voters of the 5th LD to the State House of Representatives.
What to know about Bill’s opponent
In conversation, it’s most effective to focus on the candidate you support and not on the opposition. But, friends and neighbors might ask who is running against Bill. Here are a few things to mention about his opponent, Chad Magendanz.
- Magendanz claims to be a leader in education, but has been a vocal supporter for funding charter schools with public tax dollars and a longtime supporter of “school choice,” which is right-wing code for public funding for charter schools and vouchers for private and parochial schools at the expense of public education.
- Magendanz advertised in his 2022 campaign that he was proud to be endorsed by the the Family Policy Institute of Washington, an anti-gay, anti-abortion organization whose stated goal is to develop “an army of believers” to create “a state where biblical worldviews flourish”.
- Magendanz has run to represent the 5th LD in the legislature three times in the last four elections – and voters have rejected him each and every time.
