#TakeAction – May 5, 2020
#TakeAction Tuesday to let our Senators know we oppose Trump’s unqualified nominees:
🔶 Oppose Wilson for Circuit Court Judge and Ratcliffe for DNI
Tell Your Senators to oppose Cory Wilson for Circuit Court Judge and oppose John Ratcliffe for Director of National Intelligence
Date: The Senate Intelligence Committee will hold a hearing on John Ratcliffe’s nomination this Tuesday. The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on Judge Walker’s nomination this Wednesday.
Action: Call Senators Murray and Cantwell, ask them to:
• Please vote NO if Judge Cory Wilson’s nomination for Circuit Court Judge comes up for a vote on the Senate floor. Please also speak to your colleagues on the Judiciary Committee and ask them to vote against him after his committee hearing this Wednesday. Wilson called the Affordable Care Act as “illegitimate” and “perverse” in 2014. His public statements about Democrats call into question whether he could ever be impartial if cases involving Democrats came before him. He is a longtime opponent of abortion rights. His writings and legislative voting record betray an animus against LGBTQ+ people and equality proponents. His support of voter ID laws and opposition to poll monitors suggests he would not protect voting rights, especially for minorities. Please vote NO on Wilson’s confirmation when you can, and please do all you can now to persuade Republican Senators to vote NO in the Judiciary Committee and on the Senate floor.
• Please also vote NO if John Ratcliffe’s nomination for Director of National Intelligence comes up for a vote on the Senate floor. And please speak to your colleagues on the Intelligence Committee and ask them to vote against him after his committee hearing this Tuesday. Mr. Ratcliffe has been widely described as the least qualified person ever to be proposed for the powerful position overseeing 17 government agencies. In an attempt to bolster his credentials, Mr. Ratcliffe made false claims about his record as a prosecutor in Texas, which heightened bipartisan resistance to him in the Senate. He has expressed skepticism about the findings of the intelligence agencies, which he would oversee, that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to aid Mr. Trump. Mr. Ratcliffe has floated the conspiracy theory that the investigation into the meddling was the result of “a secret society of folks within the Department of Justice and the FBI” trying to prevent Mr. Trump’s election. He could be expected to squash further reporting by the intelligence community about Russian interference in this year’s election. It would be astonishing for Republican senators to countenance such blatant political manipulation of the intelligence community, had they not already ratified multiple previous abuses by Mr. Trump. Please vote NO on Ratcliffe’s confirmation when you can, and please do all you can now to persuade Republican Senators to vote NO in the Intelligence Committee and on the Senate floor.
