#TakeAction – March 24, 2020

We will continue to #TakeAction until the Senate does the right thing. Call our Members of Congress to protect workers, not just Wall Street, from coronavirus impacts. Then you can ask Governor Inslee sign the healthcare bills sitting on his desk while you keep your social distance.

🔶 Demand our MoCs address the coronavirus outbreak
🔶 Urge Governor Inslee to sign important public health legislation

🔶 Demand our MoCs address the coronavirus outbreak

Action: Call our Members of Congress, demand they pass effective legislation to help families and workers, not give no-strings-attached bailouts to corporations and shareholders:

Congresswoman Schrier / Senator Cantwell / Senator Murray must ensure the coronavirus economic recovery legislation (H.R.748) must include direct cash assistance, no unaccountable corporate bailouts, stronger economic supports for workers and families, and vote by mail. Any effective response to this crisis must include the following three policies:

• Direct cash assistance to individuals and families, and strenuous requirements attached to any corporate bailouts.
• Universal paid sick days, family leave, and expanded Unemployment Insurance to fill in the gaps from the second coronavirus response bill.
• Nationwide vote by mail, as laid out in the Natural Disaster and Emergency Ballot Act (S.3529).

Background:
We need bold, ambitious plans that provide immediate support and lay the groundwork for a more equitable, sustainable economy—one that empowers workers, families, small businesses, and communities. That includes measures to get cash assistance to everyone immediately, protect housing, and ensure that everyone is able to take leave from work to care for families, as well as programs that rein in big industries and invest in Main Street, not just Wall Street. Congress has already started working on a third coronavirus response package intended to tackle the looming consequences of the outbreak. Decades of Republican efforts to hollow out the middle class and gut our safety net programs have left millions of people teetering on the edge. With the economy slowing down, Congress urgently has to act to preserve our democracy, and to protect families, workers, and low-income people from destitution.

🔶 Urge Governor Inslee To Sign Important Public Health Legislation

Action: Call Governor Inslee, and let the Governor know that you want him to sign three public health bills he hasn’t signed yet:

• SB5601 unanimously passed both houses. It provides for the licensing and regulation of health care benefit managers;
• SB5720, which passed each house with only one nay vote, would modernize our state involuntary commitment laws; and
• SB5395 would assure that all children have access to medically accurate, age-appropriate sex education. Sexual health education is an important component in keeping our children healthy and safe.”
