#TakeAction – October 28, 2019
Hi everyone, as we think about the people, animals and land impacted by the wildfires in California today, let’s call Rep. Schrier and ask her vote for three pieces of environmental protection legislation. #TakeAction
Call Congresswoman Schrier to urge her to vote for three bills this week protecting natural areas within the American Southwest from development and exploitation by the Trump Administration:
· H.R. 1373, the Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act, would protect tribal communities, local economies and hydrological resources by removing roughly one million acres of tribal and public land surrounding Grand Canyon National Park from mining activities (an area that is presently protected by a 20-year moratorium on such activity imposed in 2012);
· H.R. 2181, the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act, would protect undeveloped Chaco Canyon areas from oil and gas exploration and development. The area contains and surrounds hundreds of nationally and internationally significant cultural resources, including 4,000 archaeological sites spanning 10,000 years. It is considered sacred by native peoples.
· H.R. 823, the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act, is the product of years of locally driven, collaborative efforts among diverse stakeholders. This bill would protect in perpetuity about 400,000 acres of undeveloped public land in Colorado as either wilderness, wildlife conservation areas or for recreational use.
